Walton County Deadly Crash Proves Need for Seatbelts

Posted On June 28th, 2011 By CSSFIRM.COM

A recent vehicle crash in Walton County demonstrates just how vital wearing a seat belts is.  Georgia State Patrol spokesman, Gordy Wright, explained how a SUV lost control on Preston Road at approximately 6:00 p.m. last Saturday evening.

Valdosta Daily Times reports that ten people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.  Eight of the ten people were not wearing seatbelts.  The driver, Jeremy Gillstrap, lost control of the SUV, and then tried  over-correcting which caused the vehicle to flip several times.  As a result of the flips, eight people were ejected.  Two children were also inside this vehicle.  Thankfully, the children were in belted tightly in booster seats and were not seriously injured or ejected.  Seven of the passengers were taken away to various hospitals with injuries. Two of those passengers sustained serious injuries.

The occupants in the SUV were from the Monroe area, approximately 45 miles outside of Atlanta.  An investigation is underway and charges are pending against Mr. Gillstrap.
