Melissa “Mel” Dunning is a Paralegal with our firm. Mel focuses primarily on mass tort claims involving the drug Pradaxa. Prior to joining Childers, Schlueter & Smith, Mel interned with the Better Business Bureau of Metro New York and worked as a team leader, performing criminal background and pre-employment screenings for various fortune 500 companies at Sterling Testing Systems in New York City. Mel then transitioned into higher education, performing administrative and events work at New York University’s Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management, assisting the Divisional Dean and planning the Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference . Mel then relocated from New York City to Atlanta where she has worked with top firms in the Atlanta area in various areas, including personal injury, family law, criminal law, worker’s compensation, estate, and business/contract law.
Mel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Pace University’s Dyson College of Arts and Sciences in New York City in 2010. At Pace, Mel was active in many organizations/clubs and participated in volunteer initiatives such as New York Cares Day and the Food Bank of NYC, wrote for the college press, worked events at Pace’s Schimmel Theatre for tapings of Bravo TV’s show, “Inside the Actors Studio” , and was Assistant Editor of the college yearbook. Mel is now pursuing her master’s degree in Public Administration. Mel is also a notary public, DeKalb County.
Mel enjoys true crime movies and TV shows, traveling, and is an avid reader. Mel’s favorite pastime is spending lots of time with her two beautiful children, Jerry and Naomi. She currently resides in DeKalb County.
